About Me

Anamica is the daughter of an Afro-Brazilian mother and a Punjabi Indian father. She grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN, USA where she  was made to feel very different from the people around her. Fortunately, Anamica discovered science at a young age. Science helped her understand that, at a cellular level, she was the same as everyone else. Today, Anamica studies microbiology at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Department of Oceanography. Her dissertation research is focused on the interplay of eukaryotic phytoplankton and their associated viruses. In other words, Anamica studies how seemingly insignificant organisms make a big impact on Earth processes.
