I am pursuing a career in combining marine biology and art to better communicate research to the general public - particularly children. Long-term research projects on population stocks interest me because historical data on a species or taxonomic group can be correlated with changes in environmental variables, possibly suggesting changes in species biodiversity and stability due to a shifting climate. Incorporating art into research is vital to helping people understand the significance of science, as science literacy is a necessary element in respecting and caring about nature. I'd like to start at the root with children by engaging their creativity, playfulness, and curiosity into natural science through exhibit design, scientific illustrations, and art projects conducted in the environment of focus.
