Dr. Manuela "Manu" Amone-Mabuto is a marine scientist and Postdoctoral Researcher at Nelson Mandela University. Her work focuses on the restoration and protection of coastal ecosystems, particularly seagrass meadows, and the human dimensions of ocean conservation. She integrates community engagement, Indigenous knowledge, and ocean literacy to support inclusive and lasting marine sustainability. Her efforts have contributed to more equitable conservation practices, empowered underrepresented groups in ocean science, and advanced ecosystem restoration initiatives that strengthen both ecological and cultural resilience. Dr Amone-Mabuto was recently awarded a training fellowship in Ocean Literacy and is a member of the Western Indian Ocean Association (WIOMSA).
