I’m Miyah Brooks, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and a proud first-generation grad from Howard University. After undergrad, I worked on research at Duke University looking at how seagrass changes over space and time affect fisheries, and at UCLA studying how algal traits, not just species identity, shape how herbivorous and detritivorous fishes feed. Now I’m a PhD student in the Cnidarian immunity lab, where I study coral stress responses, immunity, and disease, especially how corals handle environmental stress. Outside of the lab, I’m a BWEEMS ambassador and mentor, and I love connecting with community, communicating science, and helping make marine science more inclusive. Some of my other interests include ice cream , adrenaline activities and tacos ! I could eat tacos everyday not an exaggeration
