Shalom Entner is researching the tolerance and capability to withstand anthropogenic stressors by marine organisms using an indicator species. Specifically, she is investigating the impact on a common marsh anemone's, Nematostella vectensis, physiology, microbiome, and gene expression by chemicals leached from polystyrene microplastics. Shalom is interested in policy to reduce global marine plastic pollution, including remediation and reduction of entrance to the environment, as well as targeted science communication about plastic usage. She is interning at Resources for the Future where she is writing a white paper on the efficacy of state level single use plastics bans. Shalom is also a BU URBAN trainee, which trains Ph.D. students across disciplines to address urban environmental challenges.
