Professional Bio

My name is Sharon Dorsey and I am an urban naturalist, birder, hiker, and educator based in Baltimore, MD. I love exposing people to the beauty and ecological functions of nature in their own backyard. I have gained experiences working with student groups, non-profit organizations, as well as in professional research societies. Not one to ever sit still, I'm always seeking new projects to get involved with that are mutually beneficial to my learning and sharing my expertise with others! Some notable projects have included producing an autobiographical documentary about my fieldwork experiences as a Black woman, contributing a short story to "Been Outside: Adventures of Black Women, Nonbinary, and Gender Nonconforming People in Nature", and serving on the planning committee for Black In Environment, an organization illuminating Black excellence in environmental fields.
