Hey my beautiful sisters! My name is Valencia Jean Louis, and I'm currently a sophomore studying Marine Biology with a strong interest in Mechanical Engineering applications in the ocean sciences. I’m passionate about shark rehabilitation and coral reef restoration, two areas where I hope to make a lasting impact through science, conservation, and community engagement.
I'm originally from a hardworking, lower-class family and have always been driven by curiosity, resilience, and a love for the ocean. My journey into marine science has been fueled by a desire to explore the mysteries of the sea and to contribute to healing both marine ecosystems and the communities connected to them.
Some exciting things I’ve been a part of:
🪸 Tribe Academy: This program opened my eyes to Blue Tech and the interdisciplinary connections between engineering, marine science, and sustainability. I’ve met amazing professionals like Ian Estaphan Owen from Jaia Robotics and attended inspiring talks on offshore wind energy and fisheries.
Both in and outside of the classroom, I’m captivated by the role physics, especially quantum physics—plays in helping us understand the natural world. From how particles interact in water, to how energy flows through ocean systems and climate patterns, I believe physics provides a powerful lens for understanding our environment. I’m especially interested in how these principles can be applied to marine ecosystems and conservation tech to better protect and restore what we’re losing.
I’m honored to be part of this powerful network of Black women who are reclaiming space in ecology, evolution, and marine science. I’d love to connect, collaborate, and learn from each of you!
With love & curiosity,
Valencia Jean Louis 💙
