Managing Up and Managing Self: Navigating Leaders and "Opportunities" as Black Women in a Changing Landscape

Navigate professional opportunities and boundaries as Black women in science. Learn strategies for managing leadership relationships while maintaining work-life balance.

Description:

As professionals (and graduate students) we are constantly being hit with a myriad of fast-moving “opportunities” and having to make decisions on the fly more quickly than in the past. And as Black Women, we often end up doing more than our fair share, often shouldering most of the workload and the emotional burdens that accompany it. All opportunities are not created equally, so how does one juggle competing demands while engaging fully as a colleague or collaborator? How does one manage up and sideways in a rapidly changing landscape to create optimal opportunities for ourselves? And how do we create boundaries to give us ownership in defining our roles while also maintaining our sanity? This workshop will provide you with strategies for managing your leaders and asserting your boundaries. It will also provide an opportunity for dialogue around managing self in relation to time and opportunity.

Workshop Facilitator:
